Community roundtable on transportation on Thursday

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

With this topic receiving considerable media attention lately, Our Future Summit is organizing a community roundtable on transportation Thursday at the Summit County Community and Senior Center to stimulate a lively public discussion on traffic, transit and trucks.

State Sen. Dan Gibbs, in sponsoring several policy initiatives during the 2010 session of the state Legislature designed to relieve bottlenecks on Interstate 70 during peak travel in the High Country, is meeting some resistance.

Summit County’s free public transportation system faces challenges in maintaining the level of service that visitors and locals alike have grown to appreciate. Then there’s the issue of whether Denver Water’s nightly closures of the Dillon Dam Road will remain a nagging irritant to the community.

The roundtable is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., with light snacks and soft drinks available.

Inquiries may be directed to Howard Hallman at (719) 491-1807 or Sandy Briggs at (970) 389-0987.
