Construction of roundabout at French Street and Colorado Highway 9 in Breckenridge to start Monday
Lane closures, minor traffic delays expected
Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of French Street and North Park Avenue near the North Gold Rush Lot will begin Monday, May 11, including a weeklong lane closure and minor traffic delays.
The construction is part of an agreement between the town of Breckenridge and Breckenridge Grand Vacations, which is required to build a roundabout as part of a development agreement with the town over the budding Independence Townhomes complex. The Town Council recently approved the transfer of right-of-way near the intersection of French Street and Colorado Highway 9 to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
During the week of Monday, May 11, drivers should expect a one-lane closure on Highway 9 with flaggers directing traffic through the single lane during daytime hours. After the week, drivers can expect lane shifts with two lanes of traffic to remain open. Construction is likely to cause reduced driving speeds and minor traffic delays.
Breckenridge Grand Vacations will provide traffic control updates weekly throughout construction, which is scheduled to last through Oct. 31. Any comments or concerns can be directed to Breckenridge Grand Vacations at 970-547-8761.
Under the development agreement, Breckenridge Grand Vacations must complete the construction of a roundabout in order to obtain a certificate of occupancy for the Independence Townhomes and the employee housing currently under construction at the East Peak 8 development. Independence Townhomes will include 16 luxury residences with prices starting at $3.9 million. The first homeowners could move in as soon as this December, according to a website advertising the development. The developer is also expected to build 40 workforce housing units, dubbed the “Entrada” complex, near the corner of Highway 9 and Huron Road. Breckenridge Grand Vacations was required to construct employee housing alongside the luxury home development.
Adjacent landowners along Woods Drive and French Street were also asked to dedicate portions of private property as CDOT right-of-way for the roundabout construction to commence.
