Copper Mountain man found in Twin Lakes Saturday

LEADVILLE ” Copper Mountain resident Jason Michael Wichter, 32, was found dead in the water at Twin Lakes Saturday around 3:30 p.m. by a dive team, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Wichter was driving his snowmobile on Twin Lakes Friday night when he fell through the ice and into the water on his snowmobile, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call about the incident around 9:15 p.m. Friday.

Lake County search and rescue and two other teams were on the scene.

Other reports, which could not be confirmed by the Summit Daily at press time, said Wichter and a friend were camping in the area advance of a 24-hour ice fishing contest. The reports said Wichter may have been scouting out a good ice fishing location.
