Copper Mountain opens more terrain, lifts today

COPPER MOUNTAIN – Great snowmaking conditions have allowed Copper’s mountain operations team to open the American Flyer lift today ahead of schedule.The addition of the lift doubles the amount of Copper’s terrain, increases lift capacity by 50 percent, and adds nearly two miles of trail on the Highpoint and Loverly trails. “Ideal weather conditions over the last two weeks has put us ahead of schedule,” said Mike Unruh, Copper’s director of mountain operations.The resort’s new vital statistics show about 125 acres of open terrain, four lifts and 2,300 vertical feet of top-to-bottom skiing and riding.The Green Acres learning area and the Pitchfork lift will open Saturday, providing increased beginner terrain.In other terrain news, the One Hit Wonder is back and ready for skiers and riders wanting to unleash big air. Located on the Main Vein trail, this 25-foot tabletop jump gives skier and riders a stage with the audience riding the American Eagle lift.Additionally, the American Eagle Jib Park continues to expand with more than a dozen features including a C rail, fun boxes and several options for beginners. The Night Rider Jib Park, Copper’s free nighttime park located adjacent to the American Eagle lift, opens Saturday from 5-8 p.m. The park is open to skiers and riders of all abilities and is free of charge. The park is set to have three features including a fun box, picnic table and flat rail all under the lights in the Village at Copper.
