Copper Mountain is a long-standing locals’ favorite for skiing and riding.

The mountain ” with open bowls and its easier green runs to the west, blues in the middle and black and double-black diamonds on the west side ” keeps beginners and advanced skiers and riders happy. The ski area is known as a haven for terrain park enthusiasts of any level with its graduated series of kickers, quarter-pipes and halfpipes.

Other attributes include the friendly employees, the energetic base village and the easy accessibility just off Interstate 70 on the east side of Summit County.

When Intrawest purchased the resort in 1999, the ski company launched an ambitious renovation and development in the center village, which has been complete for several years and is beginning to come into its own. New shops, restaurants and activities at the base area create a new vitality that mixes with creative architecture, bringing Copper to a new level in the industry.

The Burning Stones Plaza, located at the base of the American Eagle chairlift, always bustles in winter with music and activity. On sunny winter afternoons, vacationers relax in Adirondack chairs. On summer weekends, the plaza frequently hosts live entertainment and fun family activities ” such as outdoor movie nights, circus-style entertainment and fishing and paddling on West Lake.

Plans for more changes at Copper are in the works, with the next phase of development set to occur throughout the village.
