Cops seek man offering kids a ride in Summit Cove

Daily News staff report

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who approached some Summit Cove children Friday asking them if they’d like a ride in his truck.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, around noon on Friday, four children in Summit Cove were approached by a Hispanic male driving a red pickup truck who offered the children a ride home. After being told “No,” he then asked a second time, which frightened the children, who quickly went home and reported the incident to a parent. Summit County Sheriff’s Deputies responded but were unable to locate the vehicle.

The driver is described as approximately 35 years old, balding and wearing a white T-shirt. He speaks English with a Hispanic accent. The vehicle was possibly an older Toyota Tacoma with a red topper, chipped paint on the driver’s side door and a round sticker – possibly a smiley face – on the passenger’s side window.

If you have information regarding this or any other suspicious behavior, please contact any law enforcement agency. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-453-STOP. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000.00 reward to a tipster whose information helps solve a crime.
