Coroner: Iraq vet killed in wrong-way crash was intoxicated

COLORADO SPRINGS ” An Iraq war veteran killed in a collision as she drove the wrong way on Interstate 25 was legally intoxicated, authorities said.

Jessica Rich, 24, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.202, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Colorado, the El Paso County coroner’s office said Monday.

Rich was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-25 Thursday night when her Volkswagen Jetta slammed into a Chevrolet Suburban, police said. Five people in the Suburban were hurt, none critically.

Rich had been a heavy-equipment operator for the Army in Iraq. Friends said witnessed the suicide of a fellow soldier and had struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder since returning in late 2003.
