County extends building incentives

SUMMIT COUNTY – Local builders can continue to pull free county permits for smaller projects through July 31.

The county commissioners this week decided to extend an incentive program aimed at stimulating the construction industry by waiving permit fees for projects valued up to $35,000.

Additionally, the county cut fees by $500 for all other permits. The extension runs through July 31.

During a work session discussion, the commissioners said the benefits to the construction community and property owners around the county were well worth the additional time.

Since the the building-permit fee is by far the largest, it should have the most impact on accelerating work that may have been contemplated but delayed due to the lagging economy, the commissioners concluded.
