County Open Space & Trails seeks volunteers

SUMMIT COUNTY – Summit County Government’s Open Space & Trails Department is seeking community-minded individuals or groups interested in maintaining and monitoring natural surface trails and open space properties in Summit County.Volunteers for the Adopt-a-Trail/Open Space program will kick off the season with a volunteer barbecue and orientation Tuesday.To sign up, contact the Open Space and Trails Department (970) 668-4060 or via e-mail to will be matched with specific trail sections or open space properties and are required to visit their designated areas a minimum of twice per month from May to October.Responsibilities include light maintenance, natural resource monitoring, and litter pickup.In exchange, the county will provide training, tools, a kickoff party, an Open Space and Trails volunteer ball cap – and opportunity for a rewarding experience.Volunteers will be part of the County’s Adopt-a-Trail/Open Space Program. Although originally focused on the paved pathway system, the program was expanded in 2002 to include open space areas and natural surface trails owned and managed by Summit County.
