County supports Warrior’s Mark annexation

Staff Report

SUMMIT COUNTY – The potential annexation of the Warrior’s Mark subdivision into the town of Breckenridge has the county commissioners’ support.

The idea gets an airing before the Breckenridge Town Council during the group’s regular meeting tonight.

It’s hardly a novel concept.

“In the years I’ve been here, this is probably the 25th time this has been proposed,” said County Commissioner Gary Lindstrom.

Residents of Warrior’s Mark and a parcel in the Gold King subdivision have petitioned the town for annexation; the area includes 150 acres and 381 housing units.

County staff said in a memo that the annexation “will provide for more efficient provision of governmental services to a highly developed area … (and) allow the county to better utilize its limited fiscal resources to provide better services in other areas of the county.”

Another memo, which will be sent to the town of Breckenridge from the BOCC, expresses concern about the town’s plans to zone the entire 150-acre area into one district because it is a “broad land use designation” for “such a diverse area.”
