Couple in wrong condo

SUMMIT COVE – It took a Summit County sheriff’s deputy and a condominium complex manager to help convince an intoxicated couple that, no, no one had broken into its condo and stolen everything – that the couple was just in the wrong apartment.

A report of a burglary and/or a domestic dispute drew the deputy to Cove Boulevard just before 11 p.m. Monday. The deputy found the couple, unidentified due to the medical seriousness of the intoxication, in the kitchen.

The woman was wearing only her underwear, holding a wet pair of shorts and arguing with her husband about how everything in their unit had been stolen.

The husband explained to the deputy that he had finished work in Breckenridge and driven with his wife to their home at the Soda Creek Apartments. The two then went to a nearby restaurant for a drink. “When they returned to their apartment, absolutely everything was gone!” the deputy recorded in his report.

The deputy found the building manager, who said she recognized the couple – but they lived in a different unit, two buildings away. The manager said the apartment the two thought was theirs had been vacated, cleaned and repainted recently.

The deputy asked the man if he knew where his home was, and the man could not answer.

The deputy placed the couple into protective custody and transported them to the detoxification center adjacent to the jail. The man blew a .238 breath-alcohol content on a portable breath tester, and his wife blew a .193.
