DENVER – A woman sentenced to 36 years in prison for killing her roommate and hiding the body in a refrigerator at a dump won a new trial Thursday. The Colorado Court of Appeals said conflicting jury instructions denied Jennifer Lee-Renee Wend a fair trial in the 2003 shooting of Michael Adamson, 42.A jury convicted Wend of second-degree murder in November of that year. She had been charged with first-degree murder but said she killed Adamson in self-defense.According to the court’s ruling, Wend lived a spare bedroom of Adamson’s Colorado Springs home. Both used and dealt methamphetamine, and Wend shot Adamson after an argument in which he threatened to shoot her and her dog, the court said.
