CRDC makes wildfire assistance available to communities

DILLON – The Colorado Rural Development Council (CRDC) has compiled an extensive list of state and federal agencies that will provide assistance to individuals, businesses and communities impacted by the Colorado wildfires. In addition to wildfire disaster recovery programs, the CRDC has information on prevention services that may help homeowners and communities avert wildfire disasters from happening in the future.

The CRDC acts as a coordinating organization for rural communities that need state or federal assistance and access to services.

“The coordination between communities, state, federal, local and tribal entities is critical,” said Bob Dettmann, U.S. Forest Service forester and rural development program manager. “CRDC can help coordinate and facilitate partnerships and has been instrumental in developing those relationships in the past.”

CRDC staffers can connect rural communities with grant and/or loan contacts and information about a wide range of disaster recovery programs that can aid communities and businesses in times of crisis.

“The Colorado Rural Development Council links rural communities with programs and services they might not know how to access on their own,” said Florine P. Raitano, CRDC executive director. “Much of the state is suffering from the impacts of wildfire, and we want to make sure that smaller, rural communities do not fall through the cracks when it comes time to allocate resources.”
