It took nearly the entire day before a jury was selected in the trial of Gordon “Scott” Siriano, who faces stalking and domestic violence charges in Summit County District Court.

Siriano, 47, is charged with numerous felony and misdemeanor violations stemming from three separate cases in Summit and Eagle counties.

Among the more serious charges are two counts of retaliation against a witness or victim, a Class 3 felony; two counts of stalking, a Class 4 felony; one count of stalking, a Class 5 felony; and nine counts of violation of felony bond conditions, a Class 6 felony. Siriano also faces several misdemeanor charges, including domestic violence, harassment, menacing and violation of a restraining order.

Siriano is represented by public defender Dale McPhetres. Deputy district attorney Mark Franklin, of the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, is prosecuting Siriano. The case is being tried before 5th Judicial District Judge Karen Romeo.

The numerous charges against Siriano first stem from a breakup in September 2012 with his ex-fiancé, according to court records. On Sept. 4 of that year, Siriano and his ex-fiancé allegedly had a fight, motivating the woman to move out of their residence in unincorporated Summit County.

Although records do not indicate that particular altercation was physical, the woman sought a protection order against Siriano and told officers with the Silverthorne Police Department about several other instances in which the defendant had become violent.

A protection order was issued, but in the days following Siriano would call Lowe’s Home Improvement in Silverthorne — his ex-fiancé’s place of business — and try to coax personal info, such as her work schedule, from his ex-fiancé’s supervisors, records stated. On Sept. 7, 2012, after several failed attempts to learn her schedule, Siriano showed up at his ex-fiancé’s job, which was a violation of the protection order activated just days earlier.

Although a warrant was issued and charges were filed against Siriano after the initial incident, a second warrant was issued five days later out of Eagle County after Siriano allegedly called his ex-fiancé. His telephone contact constituted a violation of a restraining order that was added to the protection order following the first incident in Silverthorne.

A third set of charges were filed on Feb. 1, 2013, in Summit County after Siriano allegedly made harassing phone calls and sent harassing text and Facebook messages to his ex-fiancé and members of her family. In many of those instances, Siriano was attempting to acquire his ex-fiancé’s current contact information.

Siriano was first tried in Summit County on the 2012 charges, but that case ended in November 2013 in a mistrial. It was scheduled to be retried in January of this year, but given the similar nature of the offenses in all three cases and that they were allegedly perpetrated against the same victim, 5th Judicial District Attorney Bruce Brown filed a motion to consolidate the cases and try them together.

The trial by jury, which began Monday, Feb. 3, is scheduled for eight days.
