Silverthorne gas station robbed, police search for suspect
Silverthorne police responded to an armed robbery at a Kum & Go on Highway 9 at 5:18 a.m. on Friday. A clerk called police, reporting a masked man entered the store through the back door with a weapon, demanding cash.
No struggle ensued, and the robber took an undisclosed amount of money, leaving through the back door. Silverthorne, Dillon and Frisco police arrived at the scene shortly after, conducting a search with the help of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit. They were unable to locate a suspect in the area.
“This sort of thing doesn’t happen often, and when it does happen we spend a lot of our resources trying to round up who’s responsible for this,” Silverthorne police chief Mark Hanschmidt said. “This type of thing is not OK in Summit County. Period.”
He added that police would review video from the store’s camera to determine more information about the suspect. He added that police gathered some leads, and he was “very optimistic that we’ll be able to figure this one out.”
The store was closed for several hours while police processed the crime scene and gathered evidence. No one was injured in the incident.
“The bottom line is, nobody was hurt, and that’s always our first concern,’ Hanschmidt added. Getting property and money back is secondary.”
