Cross Country Ski Tour of open space this Saturday
February 20, 2008
Leigh Girvin, executive director of Continental Divide Land Trust, will lead a cross country ski tour of protected open space on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The group will visit the Cobb & Ebert Placer east of Breckenridge, part of the B&B Mines major land acquisition by Summit County Government and the Town of Breckenridge. Participants will view the wetlands, beaver ponds, and spruce forests of Cobb & Ebert from various trails, then climb the gentle road grade to the Sallie Barber Mine. Participants will meet at the parking lot on the North side of Colorado Mountain College in Breckenridge at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Harris Street at 9:30 a.m. and carpool to the trailhead. The ski tour is free for current members of CDLT or a suggested donation of $5/person. Please provide your own skis and equipment, bring water and sunscreen and dress for the weather. Dogs are welcome under visual and voice control. Though this is not a difficult ski tour, this excursion is not recommended for first-time cross country skiers.
