CU more than triples fundraising in first half of fiscal year

DENVER ” The University of Colorado received $54.1 million in donations in the first half of the fiscal year, more than tripling the $17.8 million raised in the same period last year, the university said Wednesday.

Officials said the figure also represented more than three-quarters of the university’s $72 million annual fundraising goal for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30. The figure does not include a $10 million commitment the university expects to receive by spring, officials said.

In all of last fiscal year, CU raised $59.8 million across its Boulder, Colorado Springs and Denver and Health Sciences Center campuses.

“The success of the CU Foundation’s fundraising efforts reflects our donors’ confidence in CU and their willingness to invest in making CU a world-class university,” CU President Hank Brown said in a statement. “Their generosity will have a major impact on our students and faculty and will pay significant dividends for Colorado for years to come.”

Among the donations was $25 million from the Anschutz Foundation for work at the Aurora campus of the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center and $4.25 million from the Charles C. and June S. Gates Family Fund for laboratory research to help recruit leading stem cell researchers to the same campus.

Other large donations include $4 million from the Koelbel family and $1 million from Dick and Jean Engebretson to help renovate and expand the Leeds School of Business in Boulder.
