CU students organize marijuana forum

BOULDER ” University of Colorado students are hosting a forum on marijuana a day before hundreds are expected to light up during an annual “420” nationwide event.

The forum includes officials from the Food and Drug Administration, local law enforcement, and advocates for the legalization of the drug. The forum organized by the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws began Saturday and concludes Sunday.

Hundreds of students are expected to gather at 4:20 p.m. Monday on campus to smoke marijuana. CU Chancellor Phil DiStefano urged students in an e-mail last week not to participate in the event.

The “420” event gets its name from the California statute number that bans marijuana possession.
