Date rape drug suspect arrested

Reid Williams

ESCONDIDO, Calif. – Police arrested a man Thursday who fled the county and is wanted in Breckenridge on charges of using date rape drugs.

Escondido, Calif. police arrested Ira James Largent, 27, at 9:46 p.m. Pacific time Thursday. The Breckenridge Police Department issued a nationwide arrest for Largent Wednesday after discovering he had vacated his apartment. San Diego media outlets reported Friday that Largent’s bond had been set at $10,000 and an arraignment hearing had been scheduled for May 13.

Breckenridge Police Detective George Booth said Largent might bond out of jail in California, at which time he would be assigned a court date in Colorado.

County Court Judge Ed Casias signed a warrant for Largent’s arrest Tuesday on a charge of sexual assault in the first degree with an aggravated sentence enhancer for allegedly using drugs to subdue his victims. Breckenridge police began investigating Largent after receiving a complaint on Dec. 24, and a second complaint April 15.

Booth said he suspects Largent may have assaulted other victims and urged anyone with information to contact police at (970) 547-7894.
