David and Leonore Kreutzer: Poop points well received

David and Leonore Kreutzer

I would like to applaud Dr. Joanne Stolen for her excellent article, “Poop, revisited” (SDN April 7), pointing out the scientific importance of picking up after our dogs. It was clear, detailed and knowledgeable.

I would like to add one more point. I am sure everyone would not hesitate to pick up the feces if their dog defecated in their own yard. What, then, is the difference between their yard and our roads, trails, and open spaces? These public areas belong to all of us. No one has the right to defile other people’s property. We all love Summit County and are fortunate to be living here. It is time we showed our beautiful county the respect it deserves.

The sanitary importance of cleaning up after our pets can not be minimized but isn’t it also a matter of common sense, courtesy and respect for our neighbors, our neighborhoods and our county.
