David Gray MD: Abortion not a ‘whim’ for most women

Dr. Chisholm writes in praise of Justice Byron White. Quite an accomplished life, but his words, in dissenting Roe v. Wade, make me think he was also shallow and bigoted. As quoted by Dr. Chisholm, he found the decision of the other seven judges wrong in their holding that the U.S. Constitution “values the convenience, whim or caprice of the putative mother more than the life or potential life of the fetus.”

Way to go, judge; lump ’em all together as bimbos. It has been my experience, in 35 years in emergency medicine, that most women who have undergone an abortion agonize over the decision, before and after. Few walk away looking for their next “whim.” I’m glad, for women’s sakes, that we have Supreme Court justices with uteruses these days.
