David R. Koons: Scanlan has good record for home builders

David R. Koons
Summit County Builders Association

Dear Vicki Cook: As a member of our organization, you should well know that the Summit County Builders Association is not a partisan group, and we do not select candidates to support based on partisan opinion. The SCBA and the Colorado Association of Home Builders (CAHB) did endorse Mrs. Scanlan in this election cycle based on her past voting record on OUR bills of interest, and on her likelihood to support our proactive legislative agenda in 2011.

While many of us don’t like taxes, or tax exemptions being removed as the case may be in the “dirty dozen” you describe, there are often no easy choices, and most of us would trade tax exemption on doggie bags for more money for K-12. The truth is, though, these bills were not on our “bills of interest” list last year – over 50 others were, and these 50+ were ones with a direct bearing on the home building industry. Mrs. Scanlan had a good voting record with these bills, and supported the home builders associations statewide and locally.

Mrs. Scanlan’s husband is a member of the SCBA, attends meetings, and participates in our events. The Scanlans are home builders, too. Perhaps you should consider a member-to-member discussion of the details behind her voting record of the bills that interest you, or should I say, the bills that interest a particular political party.
