You had to figure that at least one celeb would be cliche and get hitched on Valentine’s Day, right? Perhaps Britney or Paris? It sounds like something they would do but no, it’s someone much more respectful. Actress Salma Hayek, 42, wed French billionaire/baby daddy Francois-Henri Pinault, 46 in a surprise elopement on V-day. The couple, who have a daughter Valentina, 17 months, have been together off and on since 2006 and have even been engaged before but called it off. Hayek has starred in numerous movies, including her Oscar-nominated role in “Frida,” but her more recent career activity has been on the small screen, guest starring on “30 Rock” and producing “Ugly Betty.” Pinault doesn’t do so bad himself. He’s the owner of numerous luxury brands including Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Not a bad man to be married to during a recession.
Speaking of “30 Rock,” star Tracy Morgan’s Manhattan apartment burned down on Wednesday morning. The former SNL star lost nearly everything but luckily escaped unharmed. Even Morgan’s fish survived the fire! That’s impressive considering that it was a busted light bulb inside the fish tank that started the blaze. NYPD arrived on the scene within three minutes and were able to control it before it burned down the entire Trump-owned building.
“Desperate Housewives” and “Grey’s Anatomy” are two of the most popular shows on television, though both seem to have a rapidly approaching expiration date. So it’s not a huge shocker that both shows are losing some of their biggest stars. The fun, villainous Edie Britt (Nicolette Sheridan) on “D.H.” is leaving the show after five seasons and is “looking forward to her next project,” according to her rep. This means she’s giving up a steady paycheck on a good show to pursue an unlikely movie career. The only actor that has a decent shot at making a smooth transition into movies is “Grey’s” Katherine Heigl. Heigl is rumored to be leaving the show, taking with her best friend/costar T.R. Knight. Heigl has a fighting chance after blockbuster hits, “Knocked-Up” and “27 Dresses.” But T.R. Knight? He can kiss his acting career goodbye. He’s barely written in on “Grey’s” plot anymore and he’s going to give that up? Sounds like career suicide to me.
It’s finally time for the biggest, longest, most boring award show of the season: the Oscar’s. Unfortunately, it’s also the most significant, which is why we all tune in for it. Hugh Jackman is hosting, and there will be a bunch of fun presenters there to distract us from the routinely nominated actors (Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Sean Penn, and so on). Although the Academy is keeping most of the presenters under wraps, we do know that among them will be teen heartthrob Zac Efron, “Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson, and Jennifer Aniston (maybe she’ll present the “Best Actress” award to Angelina?). This will be the first time Jen, Brad and Angie will all be in the same room together, and Jen isn’t braving the night alone. She’s bringing on-again boyfriend John Mayer as her date to the big show. I wonder what Mayer will say on the red carpet? He’s notorious for running his big mouth, especially when it comes to his relationships. Now this should be good for ratings.
