Denver man gets 24 years in prison for fatal hit-run

DENVER — A man who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a hit-and-run crash in Denver that killed a 32-year-old woman has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.

The Denver Post reports 26-year-old Dennis Esquibel was sentenced Friday for the Sept. 23 crash that killed Laura McDermott.

Prosecutors say he was driving south on Broadway at a high rate of speed when he struck the woman at Cedar Avenue, then fled. A surveillance camera caught an image of the vehicle.

Esquibel also was ordered to pay $10,545 in restitution.
