Deputy hit by 2 cars at I-70 crash scene

VAIL DAILY STAFF REPORT

EAGLE – An Eagle County Sheriff’s deputy suffered a broken leg when he was hit by two cars on Interstate 70 near Wolcott.

The Colorado State Patrol says deputy John Brownlee was on foot checking a crash Saturday morning on an icy bridge when 19-year-old Jamison Bair of Eagle lost control of his car and hit Brownlee.

The Patrol says that moments later Brownlee was struck again – this time by a car driven by 23-year-old Francisco Granados of Avon, who allegedly drove away.

Granados was caught, and both drivers were jailed on charges of felony vehicular assault, driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving. Granados was also charged with fleeing the scene.

Brownlee was treated for his leg injury at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.
