Developer says it’s OK for mall to steal area business

Helen Barker - Silverthorne

During the recent public hearings on the proposed Smith Ranch strip mall, an 11-acre project that will spawn commercial sprawl into established residential neighborhoods, the Denver-based developer’s spokesman made an amazing assertion.

He declared the strip mall’s financial success was assured because it would rob business from surrounding communities, and by the way, wouldn’t that be great?

Not only will this strip mall steal from area business, it will plunder local businesses in Silverthorne’s already-hurting town core.

Worse yet, the citizens of Silverthorne would also be robbed of their last view corridor, tranquil residential neighborhoods and hope of revitalizing the town commercial core

You can prevent these crimes. The property is zoned agricultural.

Only your no vote to the proposed rezoning Dec. 9 will keep it agricultural.
