Diane Jaffee: Breckenridge bus drivers could be a little more flexible

I am perplexed and dismayed by the Blue Route bus driver here in Breckenridge who left the stop at French St. and Wellington on the way to the gondola at 9:55 a.m. March 16 when we were less than 10 steps away from the bus that had not yet pulled away from the stop. Despite waving our arms to the best of our ability while holding skis and poles, she (we were close enough to see it was a female driver) waved as she drove past us for a scheduled departure of 9:57 a.m. Maybe our cell phone clocks were off by 30 seconds, but does that justify the driver pulling away from the stop when we were 10 steps away? Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened to us on this route.

I did speak to a supervisor for the seasonal buses run by the Breckenridge Ski Resort. He told me I needed to get to the stop earlier because the drivers don’t have to wait at any given stop regardless of the time they arrive (except at the Breckenridge Station). The printed schedule said to arrive early but never stated the buses operated by the ski resort would leave any stop before the posted time or that they would leave early even if they saw you 10 steps away. How early is early enough? Do they want us to wait in the snow and wind for a bus that will come and go according to …? Do they prefer that we walk with our equipment on the icy sidewalks? Maybe the ski resort should sub out to the town of Breckenridge, which operates their six routes according to the schedule.

Is this the message you want to send to your customers on their way to purchase $104 lift tickets?
