Digitized historic newspapers available at library

The Summit County Library now has its historic newspapers digitized and available for research from the library’s website. This was made possible with a grant of $12,100 from The Summit Foundation and a grant of $5,770 from the Summit County Library Foundation. The Library contracted with the Colorado Digitization Project in Denver to scan the old newspapers from the original microfilm, index the pages and mount them on the project’s server. To access Summit’s historic newspapers, go to the county’s website at http://www.co.summit.co.us, and click on Library Services. Then click on Colorado Historic Newspaper Collection. The following Summit County newspapers can be searched by keyword or date: Summit County Journal Aug. 1, 1891 through Jan. 27, 1923; Breckenridge Bulletin Sept. 22, 1899 through Aug. 14, 1923; Montezuma Millrun June 24, 1882 through May 25, 1883; and Blue Valley Times April 26, 1912 through Oct. 31, 1914. Besides local historic newspapers, over 70 historic newspapers from all over Colorado covering the dates 1859 to 1923 can be searched. For help using the databases, call the Summit County Library at (970) 668-5555, the North Branch Library at (970) 468-5887, the South Branch Library at (970) 453-6098 or come in to any of the three libraries.
