Dillon accepting applications for town council vacancy

Joe Moylan

The town of Dillon announced this week it is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Dillon Town Council.

The position opened earlier this month following the election of Kevin Burns to the mayor’s seat, said town clerk Jan Thomas. Mayor-elect Burns was previously a member of the town council and had two years remaining on that term. The town is seeking applications from members of the community interested in fulfilling the last two years of the term.

Doug Roessel, who ran against Burns in the mayoral race, said Monday, April 7 he would not apply for the vacancy.

Interested persons may submit a letter of interest and a resume to the Dillon Town Council at P.O. Box 8, Dillon, CO 80435. In order to be considered applicants must be:

• At least 18 years of age or older

• A citizen of the United States

• A registered voter at the time of the appointment

• A resident of Dillon for at least 12 months prior to the appointment

Applicants must also maintain residence for the duration of the term and have no convictions for embezzlement, bribery, perjury, solicitation of bribery, subordination of perjury or a crime of moral turpitude. Employees of the town are prohibited from applying for the vacancy.

Applications are being accepted until 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 30. Brief interviews will be held beginning at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6. Members of the Dillon Town Council will make the final determination on the appointment, Thomas said.
