Dillon Dam Road to reopen to traffic today

Summit County, CO Colorado

Denver Water officials will reopen the Dillon Dam Road to limited traffic this afternoon, the Summit Daily News has learned.

County commissioners and Summit County Sheriff John Minor have scheduled a press conference on the Dillon side of the dam at 4 p.m., when the road is expected to open, said Brandon Williams, public information officer for Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue.

With only a few hours’ warning, Denver Water abruptly closed the road on July 8, citing unspecified security concerns but insisting there were no specific threats against the dam.

Since then, angry officials in the county ” fueled by loud public outcry ” have been negotiating with the utility to re-open the road, even filing suit in district court to force the issue.

Preliminary reports indicate that the road will be open to passenger cars only.
