Dillon PD’s K-9 dog assists with drug arrests in Grand County


DILLON – Summit County’s only drug sniffing dog helped law enforcement agencies find drugs in three different Grand County searches in the past two weeks.Sergeant Wendy Kipple and her partner Digger were called to Granby on April 8 to help locate narcotics that the Grand County Sheriff’s Office had previously been unable to find.Digger found methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia hidden in a back bedroom of David Beetsel’s home. Beetsel, 48, was arrested for possession of a schedule II drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.Later that day, Kipple and Digger assisted on another search warrant in a nearby neighborhood where Digger alerted police on several areas in the large home.He uncovered cocaine, marijuana and assorted growing equipment. That resident, 50-year-old Carla Schaffer, was also arrested.The following Monday, the Kremmling Police Department requested Digger’s assistance in searching the school lockers. Drugs were found in a locker and in a trash can in the girl’s bathroom.Kipple said Digger is the only drug sniffing dog in Summit and Grand counties and is often called to assist other agencies in locating drugs.Digger has been with the Dillon Police Department for 10 years.
