Dillon Ranger District announces campground and boat ramp closures

The Big Green boat ramp at Green Mountain Reservoir will be closing early this season due to low water levels on September 17, according to a release from the Dillon Ranger District.

The closure of the boat ramp effectively represents the end of the boating season on the reservoir, as the Heeney Marina boat ramp was also recently closed.

In addition, Forest Service campgrounds around the Green Mountain Reservoir and the Dillon Reservoir located inside the Dillon Ranger District in Summit County will close for the season on October 7. The Cataract Creek and McDonald Flats campgrounds will remain open depending on weather, with limited services and no fee requirements to provide camping opportunities during the hunting season.

"As the summer comes to an end, I would like to thank all forest visitors for a great camping season, said Bill Jackson, Dillon district ranger. "Depending on the weather, we are hoping to provide camping at Cataract Creek and McDonald Flats campgrounds with limited services through the November 14-18 hunting season. As a reminder, camping is not permitted off of County Road 30 in the Grandview Cemetery."

Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Reservoir and Granby Reservoir will remain open to boating through December 2. For more information about camping and recreating in the Dillon Ranger District call the office at 970-468-5400 or visit the website, http://www.fs.usda.gov/whiteriver.
