Dillon Town Council’s Mike Smith vouches for Bernie Zurbriggen

I’m writing this letter regarding your recent article on the Summit County Telecommunications Consortium (SCTC) and Frisco Town Councilmember Bernie Zurbriggen’s participation in this committee.

I am a current town council member of Dillon and represented Dillon in the formation of the SCTC along with the county and the towns of Silverthorne and Frisco.

Throughout this ordeal, Bernie was the single person who understood all of the inner workings of the new high-tech applications available and aptly helped this group attempt to attain better service for the community.

At no time did Bernie ever compromise his position as a council member for the town of Frisco or as a member of this committee.

I have known Bernie for a number of years and have been involved in the Summit County Chamber of Commerce and numerous other committees over these years, and I have never even once felt that Bernie possessed anything but the highest of ethics in any of his dealings.

Recently, one letter to this paper congratulated your paper for its investigative reporting, but I differ with that writer.

Since the original story broke, I have spoken with some of the original committee members and have found that when contacted by your staff, each was involved in other important projects. Each offered to discuss this matter with your reporter in detail at a later date but was told due to his deadline that would be impossible.

I would hope that prior to a story of this nature and the type of accusations involved with this story, your paper would wait to have the proper story printed.
