Free cruiser rides at CO Classic Velorama fest

Music lovers, cycling fans and thrill-seekers planning on attending the Velorama Music Festival and Colorado Classic bike race from Aug. 10-13 are invited to join PeopleForBikes on one of four daily cruiser rides to the festival grounds in Denver’s River North Art District, aka RiNo.

PeopleForBikes, a Boulder-based nonprofit, is leading multiple rides each day of the festival from north, south, east and west Denver, according to a release from race organizers. Meeting locations, times and routes can be viewed online at EventBrite.com by searching “Rock the Ride.”

“The Velorama festival and Colorado Classic celebrate biking and the Colorado lifestyle,” Mike De La Rosa with PeopleForBikes said. “These cruiser rides are a great way to kick off the celebration. To top it off, people who ride with us won’t have to hassle looking for a parking spot — they’ll simply be able to check their bikes into one of the event bike corrals. So we’re making it both fun and easy. ”

To sweeten the pot, everyone who participates will automatically be entered in a drawing for a chance to win one of two Five Points bikes from Spot Bicycles and Gates Carbon Drive. Folks also get free “Rock the Ride” tank tops for biking to the event and stopping by the PeopleForBikes tent with a bike valet ticket (limit one tank per person).

What exactly is Velorama Colorado? It’s a first-of-its-kind entertainment experience that is part bike race and celebration of bicycle culture, part music festival and part craft-goods marketplace, according to the release. From Aug. 11-13, the festival features some of the world’s best cyclists racing in the Denver stages of the Colorado Classic; national music acts including Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, Old 97’s and the Jayhawks; and hundreds of vendors in a festival marketplace, including a bike expo anchored by Denver Flea and the independent craft makers of beer, cider and wine from the Drink RiNo group.
