DJ Logic to celebrate King of Pop at last Street Beat in Vail
VAIL – A tribute to Michael Jackson with turntablist DJ Logic concludes the 2010 Street Beat free concert series at Checkpoint Charlie in Vail Village Wednesday at 6 p.m. The final concert will also feature the Volvo grand prize giveaway and a Michael Jackson costume contest.
DJ Logic is widely credited for introducing jazz into the hip-hop realms and is considered by most a highly respected session musician and an innovative bandleader. A phenomenal roster of invited guests will join DJ Logic on stage in Vail Village to create a special tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Since DJ Logic’s emergence in the early ’90s amidst the Bronx hip-hop scene, the New York City-based DJ has recorded with Medeski Martin and Wood, Christian McBride, Vernon Reid, John Mayer, Ben Harper, Mos Def, The Roots and many others. As an electronic-music ambassador, Logic works with a roster of invited guests, and with a growing catalogue of recordings under his belt, his musicianship and wide-reaching tastes allow him to journey wherever an infectious groove may take him.
This final show features the Volvo Grand Prize giveaway, a 2011 Volvo C30, donated by Volvo Cars of North America. Locals with a valid ID can register one last time for the Volvo, while guests can register to win a Quark Antarctic Expedition for two that will be awarded in June 2010. Registration for both giveaways will take place in the Vail Valley Foundation tent until 7 p.m. As in years past, eight lucky contestants will be chosen at random and called to the Checkpoint Charlie stage to participate in a game of chance where the winner will drive away in the brand new Volvo C30.
In keeping with the vibe of the night, a Michael Jackson costume contest will also take place on stage. Five costume-clad finalists will be called up for audience-based voting rounds to determine the winner. The person best representing the King of Pop will be awarded a pair of Head Monster skis and bindings. The costume contest will take place immediately preceding the Volvo Grand Prize Giveaway.
