Making its regional premiere at the Breckenridge Backstage Theatre and fresh off its sold-out run at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre is “Dogpark: The Musical,” opening Tuesday, Nov. 25, and running through Saturday, Jan. 3.
“At long last, some playwrights bark up the right tree,” wrote The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “‘Dogpark: The Musical’ … is all doggies all the time, in an absolutely charming ‘walkies!’ through the turf pooch parents hold dear.”
Follow Daisy the sassy Westie through her dating adventures with Itchy, Champ and Bogie at the hippest, hottest place in town: Central Bark, where every dog has his day and love conquers all. Daisy has promised her best friend she’d give the dating scene one more chance. She meets Champ the Collie, a charming but full-of-himself show dog; Itchy, a “humperactive” Jack Russell terrier; and Bogie, the darkly mysterious Lab/mutt who sticks his neck out for no one. This unusual quartet makes its way through the day’s scheduled events, which include Singles With Friends, Agility Class, Speed Mating, Yappy Hour and Lovers with Leashes, which is when they pair up and leave the park.
The Backstage Theatre is looking for poster-worthy dog photos that epitomize the dating scene that is part of “Dog Park: the Musical.” If your dog can look sassy, clever, witty, charming or anything like the characters in the show, we are looking for you. For extra points, include a tweet or personal ad. For example, “110-pound, long-haired German Shepherd male seeks lonely female in need of warmth and protection.”
Submit a photo of your dog with a 25-word personal ad or tweet to accompany the picture. Each week, a new dog du jour will be chosen and displayed as digital art in the theater. The winning dog’s human will receive two passes to any one of the Backstage productions this season, including “Dog Park: the Musical”; “Curves Ahead” running Friday, Jan. 9, through Sunday, Jan. 25; “The Roadhouse,” which runs Friday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, March 1; or “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” Thursday, March 12, through Saturday, April 4.
There’s a limit of one winner per household, and employees of the Backstage Theatre and their families are not eligible. Entries are being accepted immediately. Send your photo and personal ad to firstname.lastname@example.org. New winners will be chosen each week through Saturday, Dec. 27. Be sure to include your name and phone number.
