Don Parsons MD: Nicholson, not Leonard, has the relevant experience

I’m disappointed that your board caved to the right wing on the SD 16 endorsement, especially after making such a clear statement of endorsement for Rep. Scanlan on the basis that her opponent has no experience as an elected official. I guess this principle is situationally applied (therefore ethically suspect) – good some of the time, not others – since we know that Tim Leonard has no relevant experience whatsoever as an elected official.

To suggest that Jeanne Nicholson, a small business owner and job creator in the building (excavation) sector, is not in favor of small business reflects the dense closed-mindedness or inexcusable ignorance of some folks on your editorial board.

Further, to ignore the environmental dedication, energy and cost-saving, and creativity, not to mention political acumen of bringing disparate factions together, of Commissioner Jeanne Nicholson in establishing a job-creating biomass (beetle killed wood chips) fueled generator in Gilpin County is another example of ignorance of the facts, an ignorance your board should loudly deplore, not support.

To think that your board does not even know that Jeanne Nicholson established the Nurse Family Partnership program for young mothers and their infants in Summit County Public Health, now a five mountain-county, statewide acclaimed, smashing success under the direction of Amy Wineland, is another blind spot of totally baffling proportion.

Investigation by your board into Commissioner Nicholson’s shrinking of the budget for Gilpin County would have torpedoed the argument that she is a spending liberal who promotes big government. Sadly, it appears that such investigation never occurred.

And yes, I am Jeanne Nicholson’s campaign treasurer, and proud of it.
