Don’t miss summer

Summit County, CO Colorado
SUMMIT COUNTY”This may come as a surprise to would-be ski-bums and weekend warriors, but Summit County does not shut down when Frosty the Snowman melts. As skiing fades into memory and people trade studded tires for kayaks and hiking boots, the county becomes a weekend haven for visitors and locals.
Festivals and events draw crowds to resorts and towns. Frisco and Dillon each boast championship barbecue competitions and free family concerts; Keystone hosts plenty of parties, such as the Wine, Jazz and Art Festival and a blues festival; Copper Mountain has a knack for snagging hit-makers such as Lyle Lovett, the Village People and Bret Michaels; and the Silverthorne Pavilion offers an intimate venue for not only weddings but also musicians, comedians and kids’ shows. Breckenridge is entrenched in the arts, too. Its orchestral music season runs all summer, plus the town brings in great musicians for its Genuine Jazz festival. The Breckenridge Festival of Film in September rolls out new features and shorts each year. And don’t miss the live theater shows.
But the heavily orchestrated events perhaps play second fiddle to the camping, hiking and biking the snow-barren mountains offer. Dillon Reservoir provides an arena for regattas, paddling and fishing, and tiki bars in the Dillon and Frisco marinas offer shade, food and libations.
