Dr. Joanne Stolen: Don Parsons for Dillon mayor
I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Don Parsons on a recent morning. We had breakfast to discuss the Rotary 9 Health Fair coming up April 3 and how I might contribute. In the course of conversation we covered many topics including health care reform and issues with the medical community, which he as a medical doctor is well familiar with. We also talked about his involvement with Rotary and the Elks in providing free, nutritional dinners for the needy, and with the new Food Policy Council in plans for building self-sustainable greenhouses to grow food for the community.
I was impressed with how involved he is with helping improve the lives of Summit County residents. He mentioned that he was running for mayor of Dillon and we talked about his vision for the town and that it will flourish best in the context of regional solutions to shared problems. He mentioned his wide-ranging contacts and networks, and I got the impression that he has the ability to get qualified people involved and is able to put together successful teams. He has been involved for several years in various roles of leadership in the town of Dillon and I think the town would be lucky to have a mayor of his caliber, experience, and dedication. He certainly has a lot of innovative ideas. This is totally an unbiased opinion as I am not even a resident of Dillon, but live in Breckenridge.
