DUI checkpoints planned for holiday weekend

Daily News staff report

SUMMIT COUNTY – Summit County law enforcement agencies will conduct sobriety checkpoints this upcoming holiday weekend. Checkpoints aid in the detection, apprehension and deterrence of drivers who are impaired or are under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. DUI checkpoints are part of a strong effort to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents and fatalities in which alcohol or drugs are a contributing factor. Summit County law enforcement takes a “zero tolerance” approach to driving under the influence, and suggests designating a driver, using the Summit Stage or calling a taxi for transportation when drinking. The checkpoints will be set up in the county on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 during the Memorial Day weekend.
