DURANGO, Colo. ” A Durango woman has tested positive for plague, the first human case of the disease in La Plata County since August 1999.

Two free-roaming cats in the county tested positive in for plague in 2004, the San Juan Basin Health Department said.

The state Department of Public Health and Environment said Colorado averages fewer than two human cases a year.
