Dwight Brill ‘Celebration of Life’ fundraiser set for Feb. 11

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

The Dwight Brill “Celebration of Life” fundraiser takes place Friday, Feb. 11 at the Bergenhof Restaurant on Peak 8 at Breckenridge Ski Resort. The Breckenridge community is invited to attend.Dwight Brill, a member of the Breckenridge community for 20 years and a 15-year Breckenridge Ski Resort employee, lost his battle in 1999 with recurring cancer. Brill’s energy and passion for life motivated his friends and co-workers to act on his behalf after his death by forming the “Celebration of Life” Memorial Fund to assist Breckenridge Ski Resort employees in times of need. Each year, the volunteer board of directors hosts a fundraiser to help support the Memorial Fund in Brill’s name.”This is not a typical fundraising dinner,” said Julie Tierney, Breckenridge Ski Patroller and a volunteer member of the event’s board. “In Dwight’s memory we host an inexpensive, very laid-back buffet-style dinner at the Bergy. The focus is on having fun, enjoying old friends, and meeting new people living and working in the community.”This year’s fundraiser carries a Mexican Fiesta theme, and includes a silent auction with gear, household necessities and getaways.Dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children, and drinks are $3 per ticket or four tickets for $10, with all proceeds benefiting the memorial fund. Tickets are available in advance at the Breckenridge Ski Resort human resource office located at Peak 8. Tickets will be available at the door on the evening of the event. Each year, a portion of the memorial fund supports an employee holiday food drive. The food drive helps ski resort employees make it through a difficult time of the year. In addition, allocations are awarded to employees based on applications for funding received and evaluated by the board of directors. More than $50,000 has been raised in the first five years of the program and more than $41,000 has been awarded to employees in need. The memorial fund is a non-profit, self-funded entity operating under the guidance of The Summit Foundation.
