Earn free nights in a hut

Summit Huts Association, a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization, is looking for volunteers to help get the huts ready for the upcoming winter season. The upcoming volunteer days are at the Section House and Ken’s Cabin (at the summit of Boreas Pass Road near Breckenridge) on Saturday, Sept. 24, with a weather backup date of Sunday, Sept. 25 and at Janet’s Cabin (near Copper Mountain) on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1-2. Most volunteer days at the huts include physical labor, including wood chopping and stacking, maintenance projects and cleaning, as well as fun and socializing with fellow backcountry enthusiasts. Volunteers opting to work both days at either hut are welcome to stay the night at the hut, but will be responsible for their own food and personal items. For each day you volunteer at one of the huts, you will earn a free night in the hutmaster’s quarters at the Summit Hut of your choosing. Summit Huts is also looking for volunteers to help out with the Fourth annual Backcountry Ball, which will be held Oct. 15 from 6:30-11 p.m. at The Maggie in Breckenridge. For more information or to sign up for any volunteer day, please call Summit Huts at (970) 453-8583, e-mail summithuts@colorado.net or sign up to volunteer online atwww.summithuts.org/Signup.html.
