Economic development idea: invite your folks to Summit County

I hear a lot of people whining these days about not having enough money because things are slow at work and bookings are down.

They keep hoping the economy will improve and tourists will come to spend money in Summit County.

Well, its time to get off the sofa, pick up the phone or park at the keyboard and invite your folks.

Your folks are your immediate family, aunts, uncles, cousins, in laws, friends from back home, classmates, former co-workers – anyone who is special in your life.

Summit County is paradise compared to most of the rest of the country. We don’t have any fleas, ticks, snakes, termites, cockroaches, fire ants, alligators, poison ivy, tornadoes, hurricanes or humidity – and damned few mosquitoes.

Who wouldn’t want to come and visit? But, you don’t have the room for company?

Hotel and condo rental rates are lower this time of year, so you don’t have to try to cram your folks in with you. Also, most of the county’s restaurants have some type of special going on, so your folks won’t have to spend as much to take you out to dinner. Plus, you’ve got more time to spend with your folks because you aren’t so busy at work.

You’ve got a win-win situation here. You get to see your folks without having to travel. Your folks get to visit paradise without having to chat with St. Peter.

And you get to do your part to boost our local economy and ultimately your own paycheck

So stop whining and invite your folks up to paradise. You’ll be glad you did.
