Eighth annual Summit County Safe Summer Kick Off
The eighth annual Safe Summer Kick Off will be held on Sunday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Silverthorne Pavilion.
This event is sponsored by the Silverthorne Police Department and other emergency service agencies in Summit County. This event is a great way to kick off the summer, by providing education and equipment to keep children safe for the summer. During this event, there will be free giveaways of bike/skateboarding helmets, reflectors, water bottles, fishing poles, balls and other safety equipment. There will be free fingerprinting for children, helmet decorating, a bike rodeo, music and fun activities, and a chance to take a tour of emergency service vehicles and equipment. There will be a car seat inspection area to check for proper fit and safety by certified technicians. With a donation, new car seats will be available.
Bicycles will be given away to winners of an essay contest. The essay questions have been passed out to all teachers in the county to be given to the children. If a child is not yet in school, their parent can contact the Silverthorne Police Department to pick up the essay question for them to complete. All essays must be turned into the school or Silverthorne Police Department by May 16. Winners will be notified by the police departments prior to the event and will need to pick up their bicycle at the event on June 1.
This event is funded through donations given by Vista Auto, Wal-Mart, the EMS Board, Hudson Auto Source, CME, Summit Medical Center Foundation, Silverthorne Outlets, Summit Real Estate and Summit Ford.
If anyone has questions, they can contact the Silverthorne Police Department at (970) 262-7320.
