Elizabeth Wickert: Kudos to Wayne Allard

Elizabeth Wickert
Breckenridge

We thank Rep. Scanlan and Sen. Gibbs for their efforts to obtain funds for the pine beetle, but it is U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.), ranking member of the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, who announced Oct. 9 that his efforts in this respect have been rewarded by the allocation of $25.6 million to the Rocky Mountain Region.

The money will remain in the hands of the U.S. Forest Service but will be used for rehabilitation of the Rocky Mountain Region devastated by pine beetle ($7.6 million), and clearance of timber which could fuel fires on both state and private lands ($13 million) and USFS lands ($5 millions). Sen. Allard is to be congratulated and thanked for his success and persistence with respect to clearing up the mess left by the mountain pine beetle devastation.
