Ellwood Barrett: Beware early season avalanches
Alma
In memory of Steve Field and Tim McClure, two fine Breckenridge back country skiers who unfortunately died in an avalanche 25 years ago this week in Little French Gulch, I urge all back country travelers to use extreme caution and not put their lives at mortal risk. The snow is unpredictable and any steep angle slope is a potential threat. Your friends and family will miss you when you’re gone. Springtime in Colorado is the time to ski the gnarly lines ,and your pieps (avy beacons) won’t save you if your if you’ve just been churned up in the cement mixer that is a slab avalanche in early season. May you enjoy many years of many turns. Peace, long live Tim and Steve …
