Enough of police-state tactics in Summit County

Karn StiegelmeierSilverthorne

I was shocked to return home from a Third World country where I felt safe and secure to Summit County to what appears to be the sort of police state I would expect to find in the Third World.None of us are safe from our own police. My friends, the Croppers, longtime givers to our community, were terrorized in their own home by the local police.Mother, father and son all had numerous guns pointed at them by police officers with no identifying uniforms or badges in sight. They were forced to the floor of their own home at gun point. This is ludicrous. Many in our community would have grabbed their own guns in self defense. (Isn’t that what’s advocated by the NRA?)Are we prostituting our towns with strip malls for taxes just to have young, ill-trained police officers invading our homes? There was a car stolen and left in their driveway. There was no murder. There was no gun or threat to life involved. But, my innocent friends’ lives were at risk that night. This is a call to action for our community. Try to imagine this happening in your household, to your child. Are we going to accept Gestapo tactics in our community? Please let your town councils and police chiefs know what you expect.
