Fairplay man dies in wreck

BLUE RIVER – A 32-year-old Fairplay man was killed in Blue River early Friday morning after he apparently lost control of his car and struck a tree.

A Summit County Sheriff’s Office report indicates the man, identified as Charles R. Mills Jr., was speeding and that alcohol “most likely” played a factor in the accident.

According to the report, Mills was traveling south through Blue River Friday morning when he lost control of his vehicle about a mile south of Breckenridge. Firefighters spent almost an hour trying to get Mills out of the vehicle.

He suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:45 a.m. Mills was wearing his seat belt.
