Featured entertainment event in Daily News proved to be lame

The Summit Daily News owes it to its readers not to do the Friday ETC entertainment cover on lame events, especially lame events out of the county.

We decided to check out the Celebration of the West after seeing the writeup last Friday. We consider ourselves open to all kinds of arts but were not prepared for such a non-event.

The “celebrities” (who outnumbered the visitors), got to ride pretty paint horses while we were told to wait for the end of the day for a trail ride on sad-looking horses.

There was no music because of a number of cancellations on Sunday at noon, the food list was about five items long, and the welcome was also quite cool.

Maybe this was our way to observe a “day without art.” If there were no performing arts in Summit County, we would be reduced to going elsewhere for pathetic events – a scary thought. We are lucky to live in a vibrant community with all kinds of performing and visual arts. I am sure the Summit Daily could find many quality local events for its Friday covers. That would encourage the artists and businesses who try hard to create events in the county.
